"From Darkness, We shine" - Premium Framed Photograph (40.64cm x 40.64cm)

£70.00

"From Darkness, We Shine" – a thought-provoking photograph of The Mary Stanford Lifeboat House, located in Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, captures the poignant history of this long-abandoned structure.

On the 15th of November 1928, at 6:45 AM, the Mary Stanford Lifeboat was launched to rescue the crew of the steam-powered cargo ship, Alice of Riga, stranded off Dungeness.

Shortly after the lifeboat set off, word came through that the crew of the Alice had been rescued by another vessel, and a recall signal was fired. Tragically, the lifeboat crew did not hear the signal and continued their brave mission, rowing out into the storm.

Caught in the fierce south-west gale, the Mary Stanford Lifeboat capsized, and all seventeen crew members perished at sea. Since that fateful day, the lifeboat house has stood empty, a solemn reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the crew who gave their lives in service of others.
